Why perinatal mental health?

My journey into perinatal mental health is deeply personal and rooted in my own experience with pregnancy and motherhood. During my pregnancy, I struggled with depression that made an already overwhelming transition feel even more isolating. The postpartum period brought its own unique challenges, as I tried to adjust to the profound changes in my life. I realized that the struggles didn’t end with the traditional "postpartum period." The challenges continued as I tried to balance multiple roles—mother, partner, friend, and individual—and make space for myself.

Through connecting with other mothers in informal settings and in supportive communities like Mamahood, I began to see that I wasn’t alone in feeling this way. Many mothers face similar struggles in finding balance, nurturing themselves, and navigating the ever-evolving journey of motherhood. This inspired me to learn more about perinatal mental health, so I could better understand the emotional complexities that mothers experience not only during pregnancy and the early postpartum months but throughout their entire journey into motherhood.

I sought specialized training in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International to support mothers through the perinatal period and beyond into motherhood. I hope to create a safe space where mothers can be seen, heard, and supported in all the ways they deserve.
